THE GOSPEL OF JOHN
Jesus is the incarnation of the creator God of Israel, sharing his love and the gift of eternal life with the world. Throughout the Gospel of John, we see that Jesus is the son of God and the Messiah toward which all of Israel's history points. The book of John is unique among the Gospel accounts in terms of its style and literary design. John claims in the opening chapter that not only is Jesus the Messiah but he's also the son of God who gives eternal life to everyone who believes in his name. John supports this claim through highlighting Jesus' signs and miracles. For example, John relies heavily on the symbolic patterns of seven throughout his account. Seven times Jesus answers "I Am" when people question his identity. And Jesus makes clear that those who believe he is the Messiah and the son of God will experience rebirth and total freedom and salvation from their former lives of sin. |
